Music Notes:January 25 1996....I can tell ya right now one of my favorite records in the upcoming weeks is gonna be Depths Of Survival by the undisputed guardians of the West Coast... The Mystik Journeymen. Folks around town have long known and admired the work of these two prolific artists..but unfortunately one could only hear their material either at live shows or very limited edition 4 track tapes that they would release once a month. Now the Mystik Journeymen who have traveled the world as unsigned and hella broke artist have put out a smoldering 9 song ep entitled 4001. The title is taken from the address of the duo's former living quarters. For more info on the Journeymen be sure to check out their website and obtain a copy of their newsletter Unsigned And Hella Broke. I should also add that in the spirit of keeping independent artists exposed, The Mystik Journeymen are now featured weekly on a UC Berkeley's radio show where they play demos from up and coming unsigned artist. Another track that's slammin' is the new piece from Mic Geronimo entitled Life Check.. The track has a groovin' bass line and a definite NY feelwhich will have your grandma's head boppin'. Also in the same vein is the new cut from Trends Of Culture. Entitled Make A Move, I must say the cut suprised me considering I never really checked for their older stuff. This one however, is the bomb and I highly recommend it.. especially if you're trying to make a good impression.
Finally can I give some dap to my boy Li'l Dap and Melachi of Group Home. They swung through the Friday Night Vibe last week blunted to the high heavens but they represented and got busy...There new track Suspended In Time is all dat so be sure to check it. Also in the house was Kansas City's Vel Barkady..who premiered their new song Drink Wit Me.. My man Vel kicked a wicked freestyle about man and god.. It was dope..Anyway.. that's it for now.. Until next time.. Y'all keep it strange PS If You'd like a copy of this weeks upcoming broadcast... click here and email me your address..
