AFRIKA BAMBAATAA
Universal Future Funk Vol 1Planet Rock7.5
This is a solid album that harks back to the Hip Hop's early days. The production could be taken up a notch. Neverthless you get a strong sense of Hip Hop's musical diversity and the rawness of its early breat beats. Bam employs Electro-funk, p-funk, R&B and James Brown inspired grooves to take you through this album. Bambaataa's rapping skillz aren't the best.. but his positive lyrical content are right on time.. I like this one.. I'm not quite sure if todays headz will appreciate what Bam brings to the table.. I say give the album a try..

Bottom Line: In a world of thugged out jigginess will folks appreciate Bam?

CAPONE N NOREAGA
The ReunionTommy Boy7.0
This album suffers from way too many mediocre filler songs.. It messes with the momentum. The pair would've been better to release an EP with a few of their over the top songs like 'Invincible', 'B-EZ' featuring Nas and 'Queens Finest' with Mobb Deep.. When Capone and Noreaga connect they really hit big.. But when they don't I have to fast forward the material.. Really what the album is missing is diversity in subject matter.. and production.. Maybe the album is being made for folks with a different ear.. cause it certainly wasn't mine..

Bottom Line: Too much filler and not enough meat!

LYRICIST LOUNGE
Lyricist Lounge Vol 2Rawkus8.0
The Lyricist Lounge Vol 2 is a dope ass album in which collaborations really work. There's not enough I can say about this album except that everyone comes through and delivers superb performances. I'm especially impressed with the song featuring Macy Gray, Mos Def and Gang Starr called 'I've Committed Murder'. It has you sitting on the edge of your seat wanting to devour every word and every beat. It's my favorite song on the album..

I'm also feeling the unlikely match up of Cali crooner Nate Dogg with Pharoahe Monch and Mos Def in the song called 'Oh No'.. All three players come through and represent in such a way that they compliment each other and leave you wanting more. Equally impressive was the rhyme skills displayed by Pastor Troy and JT Money in a song called 'Watcha'. Oftentimes we don't expect folks from the South to hold their own. Make no mistake they do so on the Lyricist Lounge..

My other favorite cut is 'Right and Exact' by Dilated Peoples. They do it up lovely for everyone and have you feeling good about the purchase of this album..Lastly who can deny the strong showing of Kool G Rap and MOP..These cats leave you breathless with all the energy they exude..

Bottom line: This is an album you absolutely cannot front on..
If you do then you're either high on crack or a straight hater who has no idea as to what Hip Hop is all about..

PHIFE DAWG
Ventilation : Da LPSuperrappin7.0
I like Phife.. but I'm not feeling this album all that much.. It seems a bit unfocused and to be honest I really miss Tribe.. Both Q-Tip and Phife need to get back together because neither one is blowing up the spot on their own.. Phife's frustration is clearly evident on this album.. Also dude curses way to much...

Bottom Line: Tribe needs to get back together quick fast and in a hurry!
