Well folks, once again it's that time of year...yes you guessed it...The Annual End Of The Year Davey D Urban Guerilla Street Beat Awards. For those who aren't familiar, this is the time that go back over the past year and award those who deserve one of hip hop's most coveted awards.
This year we did something different. We ventured into the realms of cyberspace and solicited responses from all over the world. A few hundred of you cheerfully responded and thus your input was added into the mix.

THE ARTIST WHO COMPLETELY WRECKED SHOP IN 95 AWARD:

NOTORIOUS BIG...This was definitely 'Big Poppa's Year. No doubt...With capitvating songs like "Big Poppa" and "One More Chance" for the masses and tracks like "Warning" and "Who Shot Ya"..for the underground, how could you go wrong. With his killer lp "Ready To Die", this man just about took the crown for hip hop in '95. However, because Biggie decided to out do himself, he wound up being on everybody else's record. He was surrounded by criminals on Junior Mafia's "Players Anthem" and he wanted 'chicken heads' on Total's "Can't You See". Everywhere you went there was Biggie Smallz. Heck I went to the bathroom and there he was in the medicine cabinet. It is for this reason.. Notorious BIG walks off with another title..

THE ENOUGH ALREADY...WE HAD ENOUGH AWARD.

THE BAY AREA ARTIST WHO COMPLETELY WRECKED SHOP IN '95 AWARD:

If you live in the Bay Area there's no way you could deny Vallejo's E-40 his props... and while Notorious BIG ruled in many places.. Here in the Bay Area he took a back seat to 40 Watter...Heck there was even a dance named after E-40. A charismatic individual with much game on the business side...he came into '95 riding high off his 94 smash hit Captain Save 'Em Tho..His follow up songs One Luv and Sprinkle Me succesfully put 40 over the top...so much so that his lp In A Major Way reached platinum status. Since we're speaking on E-40 we might as well give him his other awards.
He gets the I GOT TOO MANY FRIENDS AWARD: Folks who attempted to go to his album release party earlier this year know exactly what I mean.. Heck when the vice president of your label can't get in then you know the party is jumping. 40 also gets THE SPRINKLE ME AWARD:.. This is to acknowledge that 40 and his family the Click not only spread a lot of love to their fellow Bay Area rappers, but they also imparted a lot of crucial information so folks around could get their own independent record operations up and running.
Finally he gets THE I COULD'VE BEEN A BALL PLAYER AWARD: That was due in part to him almost knocking a softball out of a major league park [Oakland Coliseum] during a celebrity exhibition commemorating 75th anniversary of the Negro Legues.

Society Of Soul "Pushin" [LaFace] .. This Atlanta based group who are part of the Goodie Mobb/Outkast family had a southern fried slow down funky flava jam that was overlooked by a lot of headz.
